Dr Steven Southwick is the Yale Site Principal Investigator for the National Center for Disaster Mental Health Research. He oversees and coordinates the genetic and neuroendocrine portions of the grant. He received an MD in Psychiatry from George Washington Medical School, 1980. He completed his psychiatry residency at Yale University School of Medicine.
He is a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Yale University Medical School and Yale Child Study Center, Deputy Director of the Clinical Neurosciences Division of the Department of Veterans Affairs National Center for PTSD, Adjunct Professor of Psychiatry, Mount Sinai School of Medicine.
His interests include the phenomenology and neurobiology of posttraumatic stress disorder and resilience and memory for traumatic events, the longitudinal course of trauma-related psychopathology. The longitudinal assessment of this disaster work has focused on symptoms and functioning among World Trade Center workers.
