Dr. Joel Gelernter leads the genetics laboratory effort for the National Center for Disaster Mental Health Research. Dr. Gelernter received his undergraduate degree at Yale; his MD at SUNY-Downstate Medical Center; residency training at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic; and fellowship at NIMH.
Dr. Gelernter is Professor of Psychiatry, Genetics, and Neurobiology, and Director of the Division of Human Genetics in Psychiatry, Yale University School of Medicine. He leads a research effort in psychiatric genetics that encompasses a range of phenotypes, including substance dependence, anxiety disorders, and stress-related disorders.
Dr Gelernter serves as associate editor for Neuropsychopharmacology, and on the editorial boards of Biological Psychiatry, American Journal of Medical Genetics (Part B), Psychiatric Genetics, and Asian Biomedicine.
